Yeah! I love these posts, did I mention that? I would definately agree with you–the Doctor admires humanity, and you can find that throughout his lives–for example, the Fourth Doctor says in Ark in Space
What an inventive, invincible species. It’s only a few million years since they crawled up out of the mud and learned to walk. Puny, defenceless bipeds. They’ve survived flood, famine and plague. They’ve survived cosmic wars and holocausts. And now, here they are, out among the stars, waiting to begin a new life. Ready to outsit eternity. They’re indomitable.
Even when Nine calls them “stupid apes,” he does show interest, at the very least, in the fate of humanity.

I’m also glad Wilf made your list. He is definately a companion in my mind.  A good pair of quotes for Wilf comes from End of Time

The Master: (to the Doctor) Oh, your dad’s still kicking up a fuss.
Wilfred: Yeah, well, I’d be proud if I was

    and later, on the spaceship,

    The Doctor
    : I’d be proud.
    Wilfred: Of what?
The Doctor: If you were my dad

Now that’s a huge compliment for the Doctor to make of anybody.

On the (intially) lighter side, I love the part about occasionally have to remind him he’s not a Dalek.   Especially considering some parts of season one’s ‘Dalek,’
The Doctor: That thing killed hundreds of people.
Rose: It’s not the one pointing the gun at me.

Thank you for the quotes!  Those are lovely! I knew Wilfred had to have a few, but I couldn’t pull them offhand.

Yes, true. Course, I tend to agree with Rose he never really means it when he says things like that. “He insults species when he’s stressed.”  Plus, Nine made a habit of pretending not to care when he really did. 0=)

No kidding. I’d love to see Wilfred come back.

Haha. Yeah. I loved that episode for that very reason.  Great lines.

Note: I inserted your Wilfred lines and gave you credit. Thanks!

No problem. Wilf and Sarah Jane are my two favorite companions, no question about it, and I would love to see Wilf on the show again…as for Sarah Jane, we won’t  be seeing her on Doctor Who or her own spin-off again, sadly… 🙁

      • Kaci Hill says:

Yeah…And I realized I wasn’t adding Sarah Jane, but I never got a chance to know her very well, so I left her with the seasons I haven’t seen.

Oh wow, I love this post! Very cool!

…no further comment because I really need to watch more in order to fully grasp all of what you’re saying here… but it looks awesome! 😀

I’m so glad you’re a Whovian, Kaci. 😉 Love your thoughts! I love how you connect the spiritual within Doctor Who. It’s something I’ve pondered before, though I didn’t go nearly as in depth as you did. Brilliant.

  4. Kaci Hill says:

    Thanks to you both.

Megan, I think part of it was the total immersion thing I went through. I’m a sucker for a good redemption story, and I’m a sucker when it comes to redeeming the least likely person in the entire cast.  Shows like DW are a bit maddening because they can only go so far without  that final piece.  The Doctor is forever a wanderer, forever in need of a savior.

And I probably never would have started this post series had I not done the marathon and been in need of both an outlet for everything in my head and a topic for SpecFaith. Hehe.  This subject’s about worn out.

What do you think?
