Names: Christian speculative fiction
Speculative Fiction And The Spiritual Journey
As devotees of speculative faith-based fiction, our genreās cultural āneutralā ground should inspire us to literally move readers to consider their individual spiritual journeys. If, as readers, we find a great spec-fiction book that sends us digging through the scriptures, or pursuing a more active and honest relationship with our Creator, then we should share that book with our agnostic/atheist/lukewarm-believer friends.

Check For Chips
My real question is this, can great writing and compelling stories really be marginalized?

Mayhem And Its Meaning
Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy might be the benchmark for grand battles, notably in the battle of Helm’s Deep in
The Two Towers
, the Battle of the Pelennor Fields and the Battle of Bywater in
The Return of the King
.

Sex, Violence and Dark Events
I understand that some readers are made very uncomfortable reading āgraphic horror and implied sexual abuse,ā but does that mean neither can ever be acceptable elements in Christian fiction, regardless of the purpose they might serve in that fiction? Should Christian authors of speculative fiction ā or any fiction ā refrain from putting ādark and violent thingsā into their novels as a matter of principle?

Content To Be A Niche
Do we as readers value Christian speculative fiction to the point of seeing it as a treasure? What if there were no more Christian speculative fiction tomorrow? No self-published e-books, no more POD Marcher Lord Press paperbacks, not any from Splashdown Books either, and none on the shelves of Christian or general market stores.

Picking Books
More and more, readers are faced with Choice. But how do we filter through the thousands of books to find the ones we actually want to read? Spec Faith does not sell books, so this isnāt one stop shopping. It is, however, the place for readers of Christian speculative fiction. But we need your help.

Which Ones Are Required Reading?
Besides Tolkien and Lewis, who else has had an impact on Christian speculative fiction? Specifically, what titles would you consider “required reading” for someone trying to understand the shape and history of present-day Christian speculative fiction?

What Are You Reading?
What are you reading? What Christian speculative titles have you read in the last year or two? Have you written a review of those books, either here at Spec Faith as a comment to the title in our library or for one of the online outlets?

Dark Is The Stain: The Song & Dance
Jesus was frustrated because whether he calls his people in a spirit of celebration or comes weeping, they reject him. Christian storytellers can likely relate, when despite their efforts and pleas, they can’t please the audience.

Taking Every Thought Captive
Speculative stories are the brunt of criticism from those who believe fantastical elements don’t belong. At the same time, however, the hammer comes down, claiming theology has no place, that it’s too restrictive, too confining, too box-like.

Interacting With Culture
Are giving in to our culture as traitors or fighting against it as a lover of what is right and true our only two choices? Is there no intersection in which we who know the truth can show it to our society rather than running from the assault or turning to fight?

Iām Out Of The Spec Closet
I admit it now. Speculative fiction has been my passion since I was a kid, and I had wild dreams back then about writing it someday.

Christian Speculative Fiction In A Postmodern World
On one hand, Christian speculative fiction authors believe, in contradiction to our culture, that there

Speculative Love: An Introduction
No, this is not a manual for exobiological reproduction, alien mating rituals, or human-vampire hybridization. My apologies if that is what you expected when you arrived here. Given that the name of this blog is Speculative Faith,Ā on which topicĀ we spend […]

Short Story Long
We spend a lot of time talking about novels here at Speculative Faith, but I’d like to make a quick pitch for short stories today and list a few places you can find well-written, short spec-fic written from a Christian worldview or at least non-hostile to a Christian worldview, for free or cheap.
